"The specific and primary purpose of the Rodeo Boosters shall be to promote the welfare
of the rodeo program of California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo (‘Cal Poly’), by encouraging
young people to attend Cal Poly and participate in the sport of rodeo through financial and other assistance."
Rodeo has been part of Cal Poly for over 60 years. Many colleges have claimed to be the best, but none compare
to Cal Poly. With our "Learn by Doing" ideals, no other college has produced more Rodeo World Champions,
Collegiate Champions and Rodeo Hall of Fame inductees than Cal Poly. The Rodeo program has encouraged thousands
of students to attend college and has been instrumental in helping young athletes obtain a first-class education
and become individuals we can respect for their strong character and commitment to excellence.
"Rodeo Boosters" started in 1972. Over the years the boosters helped keep the Rodeo program strong. We are very
proud of our new Board of Directors and the direction we are taking. We work directly with the Rodeo Club, the Rodeo
Coach and the College of Agriculture to help promote the Rodeo Program.
We have gone through a complete reorganization in 2003. The "Rodeo Boosters" is a federally recognized non-profit
organization (#46-0466538) in which all net proceeds support the Cal Poly San Luis Obispo Rodeo Program, and is
separate from and not affiliated with California Polytechnic State University.
Funds raised by Boosters help the Rodeo Program in many ways, including:
• Scholarships for current and new students
• Recruitment of talented new students
• Clinics for rodeo students
• Support to the Rodeo
• Team members
• Letterman jackets
• Rodeo facility improvements
The first Champions' Weekend, held in 2000 at the Jack Roddy Ranch, was the largest off-campus fundraiser in Cal
Poly History. We hope that our second Champions Weekend at Santa Margarita Ranch for the greatest gathering of
Cal Poly Alumni and friends will be just as successful. The Boosters hope that generations of rodeo supporters will
again come together to show their strong support for Cal Poly Rodeo, see old friends and make new ones.
Our members enjoy the hospitality of the VIP tent at the Poly Royal and All-Star Rodeos and the camaraderie; of
the Booster Fall Open House. Newsletters to Boosters are published at least twice a year. Our annual "Rodeo
Boosters" membership meeting is held at the Madonna Inn the Thursday before Poly Royal. Our thanks to all
of you who have helped to keep the Cal Poly Rodeo Program strong.
